In the past Polar Power subcontracted its metal fabrication requirements, the problems we encountered were the  (2 to 12 weeks) lead times and the overhead expense of having engineers waiting for their parts. Since most prototypes and drawings packages have flaws, rework added further program delays. In addition most metal fabrication shops did not want to fabricate a large number of single components, so we were forced to manage a larger base of subcontractors. We wanted a single vendor to work under our engineering guidance and who could construct the entire product. We could not find the service so we created our own shop and offer our solution to others.
